What’s Happening With The West Catawba Ave Construction?

As many of you are aware West Catawba Avenue in Cornelius has been under construction for some time now.  However, some may be unaware as to what the purpose of the construction is.  When complete, Catawba Avenue will be transformed into a four lane road with a grass median, spanning from Interstate 77 to Jetton Rd.  The goal of this project will be to provide a more efficient and aesthetically pleasing drive through Cornelius, and prevent bottlenecks at the I77 and Torrence Chapel Intersections.

Additional changes include:
- Overhead Street Lights
- Synchronized Mast Arm Traffic Signals
- Underground Utilities
- Curb and Gutter
- Sidewalks on Both Sides of the Road
- Signalized Crosswalks
- Wider Outside Lanes for Bike Traffic
- NCDOT Planting Plan (the actual layout of the planting plan has yet to be finalized).

Even though the construction may cause an inconvenience to people traveling on Catawba Avenue, I think we can all agree that when complete, these changes will prove to be a nice addition to the Cornelius, and Lake Norman community.
